ok so the obvious ones first:
- God, of course
- my family
- my friends
- being able to fulfill Maslow's hierarchy of needs
then the not so obvious:
- having clothes that don't fit me anymore
- it means i have more than enough food to eat
- also it means i'm growing and that i'm pretty healthy
but i still want to lose weight oops
- having this gum ache
- i mean it's pretty bad but like
- it makes relief so much better
- and i don't mean it like 'oh yeah without pain there is no joy' kinda thing
- one can still exist without the other but
- pain helps define joy
- in john green's words
- "an awareness of broccoli might make someone grateful for the existence of chocolate, but it doesn't create the taste of chocolate"
- so in my own situation
- this pain makes the effect of tylenol so much sweeter
- but yeah planning a visit to the dentist soon
- being in a community college
- it means i'm in school
- it might not be where i want to be
- but it's where God put me and i am grateful that i'm still studying
- all these struggles that my family is going through
- for proving how faithful God is
- like seriously
- if i could just tell you how much we've been blessed
- i couldn't even imagine all these favors that we've been given
- also it showed us who really cared about our family
- having sore muscles
- it means i am able-bodied
- also it means i am capable of working
- being at the mercy of other people
- because it's teaching me and my family how to be humble and appreciative of what we have
- not having a job
- one less thing to be stressed out about
- not having a license/car
- i don't need to pay for gas and insurance
- not having a boyfriend
- it means i could "concentrate" on studying
- also it means i could look at cute guys and no one would be mad at me
- always being third wheel
- it means my friends are happy in their relationships
- not looking like a supermodel
- it means nobody's just using me for my looks
- it means people are friends with me because they actually like my personality
- liking someone who doesn't like me back
- i'm learning how to be patient
- reinforces my parents' teachings that i can't always get what i want
- it makes me rethink what i really want
- and how i perceive other people
- the struggle also helps me learn how to be a better communicator
- and i know that even though we won't end up together
- it's a good experience that i can look back to
1 thessalonians 5:18 says "in everything give thanks, for this is God's will in you in Christ Jesus"
yeah, it's hard to deal with struggles in life and yes, i'm praying that we may overcome these difficulties
but there's nothing wrong in looking for that silver lining
so i'm thankful for the good things and the bad things, because as the wise kelly clarkson said,
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
